How We Started

Women’s Business Council-Brunei Darussalam (WBC-BD) was launched on 20 June 2000 at the Closing Ceremony of the APEC Women’s Leaders Network (WLN 2000) Conference “SMEs as Global Traders” hosted by the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam (CWBD) from 17-20 June 2000 and held at the International Convention Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan.

WBC-BD is a national body of women leaders in business, academia, government, and civil society which aims to represent women’s business interests and concerns and to create an avenue for exchanging ideas and developing skills, entrepreneurship and support for quality businesses for women and amongst women.

The formation of WBC-BD was at the initiative of CWBD under the leadership of its President 1997-2000, where a Sub-Committee on Business and Entrepreneurship formed on 11 March 1999 led the way to the formalization of a separate body named Women’s Business Council-Brunei Darussalam.

Since then WBC-BD has become an active body nationally as well as in APEC and ASEAN fora. It acts as a National Focal Point and participates in APEC WLN Conferences since 2000.
